Subject: [missing-sync-hiptop-talk] The Missing Sync for hiptop Beta 7
Message-ID: <70D55348-7D7C-4F98-A9F5-051B293EF12B@markspace.com>
All,
We have posted beta 7 of The Missing Sync for hiptop to .
This build includes the following fixes/improvements:
- Fully support iCal's Birthday calendar
- Synchronize Sidekick data with custom labels
- Correct issues with record identifiers for non-parent entities
- Performance improvements
Due to changes in handling record identifiers, it is recommended that
you unregister the sync clients before your first synchronization
with beta 7.
In order to do this, launch Missing Sync for hiptop 2.0.0 b7, hold
down the option key and select "Debug Options" from the Missing Sync
for hiptop menu and click on the Unregister Client button. This will
allow Missing Sync for hiptop to start fresh and perform a slow sync.
Please report any issues using the web form at .
Enjoy!

William,
Can you provide a little more information for us? I think you're
writing that contacts synchronized fine - can you clarify that?
Also, make sure you've selected the calendars you'd like to sync, and
unregister the sync clients to get everything back to square one (see
my beta 7 announcement for instructions).
Let us know what happens.

William,
If you could, please create a new calendar in iCal with just one
event (make it for today). Go back into Missing Sync and choose only
that calendar, then unregister the sync client, then sync.
If that works the problem may have something to do with your data. Do
you have a large number of items in your calendars?

Message-ID:
I was having trouble with events not synching to the hiptop. The
contacts always synched up no problem. Now the program goes through
it's synch then it hangs for a long time then finally quits. I tried
the unregister sync clients. I tried to just have it sync a new
calender with 1 event. I even unistlled the program then reinstalled
it and started from scratch. Not to mention that it makes my computer
run really slow. So no luck I am at a loss about what to do next. I
know it is a beta program so I may have to wait for the final release
to get it to work.

William,
I'd like to see your sync log. It sounds suspiciously like you are
running out of memory while processing your iCal changes. We retrieve
these changes individually from the synchronization engine, which
loads them all up - which can consume a vast amount of memory.
How much RAM do you have? Do you have a lot of events in iCal?
Despite having just the one calendar selected in our preferences, we
still have to filter *all* events that come from the sync engine.
In another email, I'm going to send you an AppleScript that will
allow you to delete old iCal events and todos - clearing up your
calendars will most definitely help you get through this problem.

I am evaluating StickyBrain to decide whether to purchase it and see
that it offers sync to Palm devices. Was wondering if anyone had set it
up to work with a Sidekick?
Thanks,

Hi -- I'm considering purchasing MS for Hiptop, but
I'm not sure which limitations the beta faces.
The release notes summarize what's been fixes but not
known issues or missing capabilities.
Can anyone summarize?

i am not sure if this is a function of the Sidekick, I remember this
happening with my Apple Script I wrote originally before there was a
missing sync...This is what i noticed. Some of my number in the
contact are all running together. there is no dashes separating
numbers, until I actually open the contact and edit the contact, if I
open the number and then close it then the dashes appear...anyone
else see this?

The dashes, at least in Address Book (on the Mac), are automatically
inserted and are based on the Preference "Automatically format phone
numbers". So the underlying data is stored however you entered it,
but when displayed in address book, it is neatly formatted. Turn off
this preference and you'll see that your numbers don't have the
dashes unless you put them there.

Without sync support for hiptop notes, I'm not sure what interactions
could exist with StickyBrain.
I've been using StickyBrain for a few months but I dislike that
everything lives in a single, monolithic file of unknown format. If
that file is corrupted, my data is pretty much gone.
At some point I plan to look for an alternative which uses discrete
files and hopefulle even open formats.

Jonathan,
Are these all-day events? If so, a fix has been made for them.

I'd like to pass along my personal thanks to all those who went
beyond the call to help us deal with some peculiar issues - without
which we would have had trouble getting good fixes (and features)
into the product.
I hope you enjoy this release!

Although I personally was too much of chicken to help out with this
beta I would like to thank Markspace for keep close to their
commitment and delivering a ver 2 so soon, so we can get back to the
biz of syncing in Tiger.
Thanks to all who did the work so the rest of us can sync away!
Chad.

Hi
I just picked up a sidekick yesterday and bought the Markspace sync.
I used the beta yesterday and upgraded to the release version today.
(I'm running 10.4.x)
I've had some problem of loosing my groups in the address book and
all of my calendar data moving in the 'UnFiled' calendar (where the
sidekick puts new entries).
Those are easy to deal with, with backups and I'll chalk them up to
starting with the beta.
The bigger issue is that a good number (say about 75 of my 300)
contacts are listed on the sidekick without their phone numbers or
email addresses. The data is in my address book, it just doesn't seem
to be syncing.

James,
Launch our app, hold down the option key and choose "Missing Sync for
hiptop" menu and choose the "Debug Options" item.
In the window that appears, choose "Unregister Sync Clients" and
accept the message that appears.
Now synchronize. If you're comfortable with deleting your device
data, set the checkbox to do so (highly recommended in this case).
Let us know your results.
Thanks,
b

Hi -
The new version(2.0) works very nicely. I was able to sync my wife's
sidekick without any problem. But I STILL cannot sync with my sidekick.
I was not able to make connection. It gave me error message saying that
my username or password is invalid. So I called TMobile and verify my
username and stuff. They don't see any problem with my username. I could
log into TMobile's website using the phone number and same password and
I could get in without any problem.
What could be WRONG? My username is invalid? Help.
Thanks.

Hello,
Is the Hiptop version of the Missing Sync software compatible with
the Motorola A630 cell phone? This phone is very similar to the
Sidekick.
Thanks,
Tom Donnelly

No, definitely not. The product synchronizes with devices
manufactured by Danger.
