My understanding is that a variety of services, including purchasing
items in the Catalog and PIM synchronization, are waiting for Danger and
the various carriers to get their billing systems integrated. It looks
like a lot of neat stuff which might cost money, at the discretion of
the carrier or Danger, cannot be made available to consumers until the
appropriate parties can be billed/paid automatically. This does not mean
that Danger or your carrier will necessarily bill you for
synchronization services, but billing has to be possible for the service
to be rolled out.
