[missing-sync-hiptop-talk] The natives are restless...

This originally went to the Danger's Hiptop forums...

--begin
Really I felt like I could see this coming as the end of the month got
closer and closer and the mailing list had no new release date
information... anyway... from the horses mouth...

[snip the original delay announcement]

I'm not sure what they are appologizing for really as it would seem
that some sort of agreement was made somewhere that the web servers
would be ready by the end of February -- obviously this didn't come to
pass. So either Mark/Space made a release date they had no business
making -- or "Danger and their carriers" dropped the ball and screwed
us all who thought this was "going to be the week".

Its funny... I work on a network of more than 10,000 users. And yes,
we do occasionally miss deadlines. But I can't think of a single
instance in which we were going to miss a deadline where we couldn't
give the users more than a weeks notice and a detailed account as to
why we were going to miss it. Consumers have just become occustomed to
taking it in the rear.

Mark/Space and crew -- I for one appreciate your willingness to at
least let us know why this occurred. Hope this isn't how things will
progress for all other third party developers working with Danger and
their carriers moving forward.

And after waiting yet another two weeks, my frustration point has begun
to reach its limit. So the following just went off to their forums...

Subject: Danger... Please Respond...

In one form or another I am not only a customer of your product, but
also an ambassador of your product. While I know our relationship is
not the conventional one to one customer relationship, you do still
profit or lose potential profits due to my ambassadorship of your
product.

Therefore I feel entitled to an answer regarding the following
question, which many other than myself have been asking you for over a
year (though with much more fervor of late due to the recent Mark/Space
announcement):

When will the application interface for PIMs be finished on your
servers? Mark/Space was obviously led to believe that this would be
completed by the end of February. Thousands of other Hiptop owners
were lead to believe they would have synchronization abilities over a
year ago. But now we, your customers and ambassadors, know a product
is ready and waiting on you and whatever deal you have with TMobile (a
part owner of Danger). So, on what date will your servers be ready?

Calls to Danger net no information. Calls to TMobile net no
information. Mark/Space has no new information to add. So I beseech
you, give me a date so that I may set my expectations of your product
accordingly.

[As an aside to any possible Danger Fanboiis to whom this letter is not
addressed, I present the following analogy. What Danger/TMO are doing
is akin to your local telephone company (assuming you have competing
phone companies in your area) doing the following: "Voicemail is
coming to your telephone soon!" (six months pass) "Our partners are
working on voicemail solutions now!" (six months pass) Phone Company
Partner: "Announcing Voicemail for your telephone! Coming soon!" (six
months pass) Phone Company Partner: "Well, we have the voicemail system
ready to go, we just need the phone company to give us access to their
facilities." -- Its not a perfect analogy, but it works well enough.]
