[missing-sync-hiptop-talk] Re: Sidekick vs. Treo 600

I have both the Sidekick and the Treo 600. I keep the Sidekick because:

1. The Sidekick's keyboard is far, far better for typing, so I use
the Sidekick for writing e-mail and IM-ing. I write a LOT of e-mail
on my handheld, and the Treo's tiny keyboard simply does not support
rapid thumb-typing, even with my small girly hands. No software that
can change the fact that the Sidekick's physical form factor is--from
my point of view, at least--pretty much ideal.
2. The Sidekick's web and e-mail are faster than the Treo's, and you
don't have to sit there and wait in one application while it finishes
its business. That is to say, on the Sidekick I can click over and
browse webpages or write IMs while my e-mail downloads in the
background, or read/write e-mails while waiting for a webpage to
load. On the Treo, if you try to leave a mail application while it's
transferring mail, or a web application while it's loading a slow
page, you cancel the process. Mail handling is far, far slower on the
Treo than on the Sidekick, in my experience, which is a problem if
you get a bazillion messages (and spams) a day, as I do. And by the
way, whoever named that browser "Blazer" must have done so in a fit
of irony. Compared to the Sidekick's browser, it's excruciatingly
slow. Maybe future firmware and software updates will address this
issue. I hope so.
3. I love the always-on IM app on my Sidekick.

I got the Treo because...well, you know why. Because I had to sync my
calendar and contacts, goddammit. And I can't live without Vindigo.
And the camera is really quite good. And I must say, I love that "J"
key in SnapperMail!

Speaking of sync, if you want good wireless sync, go with Verizon for
your Treo. They've partnered with Intellisync to provide wireless
sync between your Palm and your desktop. Don't hold your breath
waiting for Cingular or T-Mobile to follow suit (according to my
friend at Intellisync).
