They can't tell you because it's not something that's completely internal, it also involves another
company. Parts of the negotiations may involve discussions of future products, financial statements
of one or both companies, or a personality on one side or the other being a big jerk, and it's
usually not good for a company to reveal that about another company.

However, you should stop thinking that it could still happen. That is what they are trying to say
with "and at this point are not expecting to." It is unfortunate.
