I'd like to find folks or organizations that could use them. Ideas? Some of the kits are pretty old, e.g., a Scissor-Wing Transport, a Mars Lander, but everything is at least twelve years old (about the time when I had to step back from the hobby due to the activities of a young BayNAR member). Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to get the time to return to the hobby (my wife calls it helping with the kids on almost all evenings and weekends - others may call it something else). If this list seems alive, I can post an inventory on it. I can try shipping things around, but I do not make guarantees on how well I can pack it. Engines likely can't be shipped. (I have experience over the years in doing this for myself, but I'm not sure about the Fire Code and transferring engine ownership) Thanks. Both the Scissor Wing Transport and the Mars Lander are opened (can't tell very well with the Mars Lander box :) ). I also have an MPC Flat Cat still shrink wrapped. I believe all three were NARAM auction items. > > Regarding the engines, what type are they? Are the black powder (like > Estes) > or Amonium Perchlorate? What city do you live in? I have both Estes and Aerotech engines (with a couple of other manufacturers tossed in). Lots of different sizes from half A to E, including some Aerotech compact specials (13mm Bs, 18mm Ds). I'm in San Francisco, where they don't like model rockets. :( For interesting storage, i have them in covered coffee cans. By the design, I was hoping if a fire problem came up, they would blow off the top. > From: Jack Hagerty > > It's alive enough that I got it. Go ahead and post the inventory. I've been wondering about the lack of activity on this list, but I guess we're still reading it. :) Philip From philipwing at earthlink.net Thu Oct 19 11:01:52 2006 From: philipwing at earthlink.net (Philip Wing) Date: Thu Oct 19 11:01:59 2006 Subject: [BA-Rockets] Model Rocket Kit and Engine Inventory (long) Message-ID: Please remember that my original intention was to donate this stuff to non-profit organizations for their use. I haven't heard about ideas in this area yet, although the scout councils may be a place to start. I've declared all of this stuff as clutter because my wife probably won't let me participate in the hobby again. Heck, she's upset about letting me go to a Girl Scout camp this weekend with my eldest daughter. Here is my inventory of Model Rocket Kits and Engines: For the kits, I'm at least looking for shipping and packaging costs. Insuring that the tubes don't get crushed and the balsa broken will be interesting, but I hope I can figure that out. Just free transfers are already questionable under state law, but I presume should be OK. I do not want to ship them as shipping them to someone else is questionable under state law. The single Estes engines do not have igniters. Some of the Aerotech engines have wick igniters, which may not be allowed by your field permit or club. I was there. At the time of your message, I was on a flight arriving in El Paso TX, the nearest airport with airline service to Las Cruces NM. The event you were thinking of was called the "X Prize Cup" even though there is no "cup" to award. At least not yet. It's sort of a rocket themed air show based on the crowds that came to the Mojave Airport to see SpaceShipOne in 2004 when it won the X Prize. There was no rocket racing this time, and wasn't supposed to be. The Rocket Racing League starts operation next year, with qualifying rounds at the Reno Air Races in September and championships at the X Prize Cup in Las Cruces in October. The X-Racer rocket planes are currently under construction by XCOR Aerospace at the Mojave Airport. The X Prize Foundation's new event is struggling to gain momentum. There was supposed to be a competition for the NASA Lunar Lander Challenge prize. But of the four teams who signed up, only Armadillo Aerospace was ready to fly. Masten Space Systems static-fired its motors and had its lander on display. Acuity and Micro-Space had booths. I was there to help my friends at MSS. I also ended up providing technical assistance on the second day to the reporters covering the Tripoli launches, after the first day showed the slick media types that XPC lined up knew nothing about rocketry. Highlights of the show... * Armadillo's three attempts at the NASA Lander Challenge, even though they didn't win the prize money, had everyone telling them "congratulations" because it was so impressive. * Masten Space had static rocket firings of 95 and 75 seconds which had the crowd holding their ears, even from across the airport taxiways. * The "rocket belt", even though it's 1960's technology, wowed the crowd as a man flew in front of them. * The Tripoli HPR launches on the second day had interviews with the rocket builders and got their reactions with pre-launch nervousness and then celebration as everything worked. Feedback said the crowd really liked it. (I got the camera crews and each rocket's builders together.) * Though not everyone was into the NASA "Elevator Games, I was impressed to see that Westmont High School from San Jose showed up, and beat the best time from University of Michigan, A Canadian team had the best tether- climbing time for the day which the judges were still evaluating whether it was a winner or not at the end of the show. NASA pointed out that Westmont's entry and respectable performance showed there's no lower age limit. I hope to have my pictures posted today. Definitely by tomorrow.
