This Saturday, July 17th, is the second annual San Ramon Rocket Day. This
is a great family event presented by the San Ramon Park & Rec Dept where
participants learn about rocketry, build their own rocket and then fly
it. Last year everyone had a great time. (Here's the online info:
http://www.sanramon.ca.gov/econnect4/Activities/ActivitiesCourseDetails.asp?aid=1740&cid=28933)
A few details:
* San Ramon provides the rocket kits (an alpha or similar model) and motors
(a single A6 or A8 motor for each rocket)
* All the action is at San Ramon Central Park. The build is inside the
community center and we fly outside on a field behind the tennis
courts. (Field size is limited so the A motors are a good choice.)
* This is a short event: Build session starts at 10am and flying will be
from 11:30-12:30.
* There will be about 130-150 participants with 65-75 rockets. (Each
parent and child works together to build and fly their rocket.) Since
everyone gets only one flight (possibly two), it's a wave of folks and then
done.
Once again, this is a great outreach event where folks who have never flown
rockets before get the opportunity to do something exceedingly cool. And
it's really cool to help and watch their enjoyment.
So... I am co-ordinating LUNAR's assistance and at this point, we are in
need of the following:
* launchpads (We have 2 but we ought to have at least 5 and up to 10.)
* volunteers to help primarily with the launch. (Once again we have 2 but
we ought to have at least 5-10.)
* Exhibit material (Last year we had a large collection of a variety of
rockets for folks to get an idea of what's possible.)
* Handouts (Beyond the flyers and cards, any suggestions would be welcome.)
Since we have the Hornet event and our July launch in Livermore happening
at the same time, we need everyone to consider participating in one of
these events. If you've never helped out at a LUNAR event, the San Ramon
Rocket Day is a great opportunity. If you have any questions, drop me a
line at crs at mtrad.com or give me a call at 925-324-2400 (cell).
Volunteers and suggestions are encouraged to contact me! :*)
Cheers,
Craig
