[BA-Rockets] Launch sites in the Bay Area

Hello,

I'm trying to introduce a boy I mentor to model rocketry. We've
gotten a launcher and a couple rockets and now are trying to figure
out where we can launch them. We are located in the Palo Alto area.
A call to local police and fire departments has yielded a "No, you
can't launch them in our town" statement from 100% of the towns called
(I gave up after three-- Menlo Park, Palo Alto, and Redwood City).

Looking at the list and the website it seems like there are few or no
options to do this anywhere local. As far as I can tell the regular
group launches at DeAnza are on indefinite hold. There was one thread
in the list archive from earlier this year that indicated that there
might be a site in or around the Berkeley Marina that allowed private
launches on 2 days per month, but there weren't any more details. The
same poster suggested there were other sites with similar restrictions
that might be around, but didn't list them or suggest how to find
them..

So, does anybody on the list have any suggestions? Is there some
place that a list has been compiled of sites for launches, even if
they are restricted? If there are no sites, what are people doing for
launches? Waiting for the occasional special event launch? Or, do
people launch them on the sly (which I understand is illegal, casts a
bad name on model rocketeers, and can result in fines)?

Any information and help would be appreciated!

-Brad
