Hi,
I'm sure many of you are already aware of this, as it has already been
discussed on other rocketry mailing lists. However, there are probably
individuals on the BAYNAR list who do not subscribe to other lists, and
this turn of events is important enough to all of us who engage in model
rocketry that I thought I'd better pass the information along.
A provision of the Homeland Security Act, as it is written at this moment,
threatens to put an end to model rocketry.
In the coming days, there will be an effort in the United States Senate to
pass an exemption that would allow model rocketry to continue to
exist. However, the success of that effort may depend upon citizens
contacting their senators to express their support for this safe and
educational hobby.
For a brief background on the problem, see this Yahoo News article:
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=96&ncid=753&e=10&u=/space/20030225/sc_space/explosive_regulations_threaten_to_kill_model_rocketry
For more information on the intended legislative change, and what you can
do to help, look here:

Let's continue to allow our future scientists and astronauts to pursue this
hobby. Please read the instructions in the "space-rockets.com" article, and
take the time to fax and/or call your senators.
Thanks,
Norm Newlon
