From kriks at pacbell.net Tue Apr 1 21:03:36 2003 From: kriks at pacbell.net (Martin Krikorian) Date: Fri Feb 13 19:28:18 2004 Subject: [BA-Rockets] March Launch Report & News Message-ID: <75D234B0-64C8-11D7-B858-00306546CE7A@pacbell.net> We started out rainy but ended up launching quite a bit anyway! Much thanks to Norm for handling duties as launch coordinator, and to others who jumped in to help out! Special thanks to Carl R, who has continued to let us borrow his trailer, as well as hauling it in to the launch this month. NEWS - April, May and June launches have been set, all on the fourth Sunday of each month. (This puts May's launch square into the middle of Memorial Day weekend, but there is no alternate date where we can get the lot.) Thanks to Lou Dick's efforts our NAR chapter paperwork has been filed, and we will get everything back from them for the new year's liability insurance within a few days. Plans for DeAnza construction now look like this: Construction of the bus terminal in B lot is postponed indefinitely. (VTA has no money to build it.) On the other hand, Lot C construction is now slated to start in October. Once that happens, we may have to reconsider the size of rocket we can launch. When it happens is the real question. All this construction was supposed to have started by LAST October, but it keeps getting postponed. As long as they keep postponing, we can still fly our E and F motors... No news right now on securing the Lockheed site for launches, but it is still in the works! I would like to propose that we hold a contest at the June launch. We could pick a kit for everyone to build, either stock or modified, and we could do a contest launch like duration or drag race. If you have suggestions of what we should do, send them in to Marty@BayNar.org , as I would like pick something that appeals to lots of people! The April launch is going to be on the 27th, and we can use volunteer help, as always! If you can haul the trailer, please let me know, as it is important to get that planned in advance. -Marty K. If the weather does cause a cancellation - too rainy or too windy - we will notify via this e-mail list. We tend to wait until the last minute to cancel, so check just before you come out, if you are worried about a wasted trip! We are having a fun rocket building contest for our June launch. We got several suggestions for contest format, and we have settled on Big Bertha parachute duration. You can build it stock, or you may modify it as you choose. The longest in the air on an Estes B4 or B6 motor is the winner. Modified versions must use all the original parts (they must be present, but can be modified). -Marty K. -Marty K. Message-ID: <2D2F1E3E-76D3-11D7-AA77-00306546CE7A@pacbell.net> The weather is "unsettled" as far as this weekend goes, but we will do our best to be out there launching. We will judge stock versions and mods separately, so you can build and enter for both. Rockets may be painted or not, but I believe there should be awards for painting and finishing. Notice: Intentionally shooting for the CATO award is not considered sporting! Questions or suggestions? E-mail me quick! I'm not sure whether they might be on the mailing list, and I don't have their addresses here on my laptop to warn them. (I sent you the addresses earlier.) I won't have email for the next several days, so have fun. -Norm At 09:05 PM 4/24/2003 -0700, you wrote: >The weather is "unsettled" as far as this weekend goes, but we will do our >best to be out there launching. In this case stock means stock for everything. You build it just as the instructions tell you, with all the original parts. -Marty On Thursday, April 24, 2003, at 11:52 PM, Jay Dean wrote: > Is the parachute considered one of the 'original > parts', or can it be replaced in the 'Modified' class? > > > > --- Martin Krikorian wrote: >> We are having a fun rocket building contest for our >> June launch.
